My experience as an intern at Blurred

By Warren Romer, Intern

Having completed two incredible months at Blurred, and reflecting on my experience, I can safely say that I leave having acquired a wealth of knowledge and skills on operations, executive functions, and a fundamental understanding of ESGP (ESG + Purpose) and sustainability comms.

I was fortunate to have Blurred as my first professional work experience in the UK having previously interned at consumer agencies in India and was immediately drawn to Blurred’s unique consultancy approach, its commitment to upholding ESGP values, and its impressive portfolio of clients.

My internship was completely virtual - but that didn't stop me from forming some truly meaningful connections with an enterprising, yet warm and welcoming team.

Tuesday morning ‘Kitchen Table’ discussions were the highlight of my week: keenly engrossing myself in conversations which could range anywhere from innovative developments in ESGP, to binge worthy Netflix recommendations.

I have always felt like a valued and supported member of the Blurred family, a consultancy which has spared no expense to support my growth and development as a comms professional. I've always been encouraged to ask questions and learn from the experience of team members of all levels. These initiatives have been fundamental to shaping my experience and overall development during my two months at Blurred.

My two key takeaways from my Blurred internship would be:

Research is the key to success. Staying abreast of current developments and trends in your sector is key to providing relevant insights and contributions. Having spent a considerable amount of time discussing and working on all things ESGP, my knowledge and skills in this area have grown exponentially, and I will be leaving Blurred more confident and knowledgeable on a topic that is quickly taking precedence around the world.

Smaller teams equal more attention. It's easy to feel overwhelmed in an organisation that operates with large teams. This was something I never faced given the inclusive and collaborative culture at Blurred, which allowed me to operate across various teams dealing with a range of tasks. In my opinion, the engagement I had here was far greater than if I had joined an organisation that prioritised having a hierarchical structure.

I am immensely grateful to Blurred for providing me with the opportunity to upskill and learn from a dedicated and talented team of hardworking professionals. I look forward to taking my newfound skills and knowledge and applying them to my next role in the comms industry. I also wish my current and future Blurred family the very best of luck in their future endeavors.
